I’m William Lawrence, and today I’m officially launching my campaign for Congress to represent Michigan’s 7th District because we need leaders who won’t just play it safe.
I’m running because our community deserves security — the kind of security that comes from good housing, reliable healthcare, and knowing your family has a safe future. But billionaires and bullies like Tom Barrett have stolen that security from us, while politicians in Washington look the other way.
This campaign is about building a Michigan we can afford, a future we can look forward to, and a country we can be proud of. And if we’re going to take on Tom Barrett, the political establishment, and the MAGA machine, I need you in this fight from the very first day.
Can you chip in $5, $25, $50, or whatever you can today to help us kickstart our campaign?
I’ve spent my life organizing for justice and building coalitions to deliver real change.
I co-founded the Sunrise Movement, helping pass the largest green jobs program in U.S. history and securing over a billion dollars of investment right here in Michigan.
I founded the Mid-Michigan Tenant Resource Center, helping families keep a roof over their heads when landlords or the system failed them.
I launched the Rent Is Too Damn High coalition, which fought for and won protections for low-income tenants statewide.
But my commitment to this work started much earlier — right here at home in East Lansing. I was raised in Mid-Michigan, went to East Lansing High, and I carry this place with me everywhere. When I came back to Lansing, it wasn’t because life was easier here. It was because this is my home, and I believe in the people here.
I know firsthand that when ordinary people come together, we can change what’s possible. I’ve seen it in the climate movement. I’ve seen it in the fight for housing justice. And now, together, we can do it again here in Michigan’s 7th District.
This seat could be the deciding vote in Congress — the difference between a House run by MAGA extremists or one that actually delivers for working people. And I will never back down from that fight.
This is our moment to demand courage from our leaders. To demand action, not excuses. To demand a future worth fighting for.
But campaigns like this are only possible if we build them together. The first week will determine whether we have the grassroots power to take on billionaires, lobbyists, and political insiders.
Please donate today — $10, $25, or $100 if you can — and help me launch our campaign with strength.
